Reusing the existing resources will reduce the need to process new materials. It is, for example, easier to recover and to reuse metals than to mine them from the earth. resources such as metals and fossil fuels are non-renewable. They are the product of geological processes that may take millions of years to complete. Reducing the need for new materials will allow nature to renew itself, reduce the amount of energy used and amount of pollution in the atmosphere. Recycling is a process of converting wastes into useful materials.

Here are some materials to be recycled:

Material/ Resources	Description	Process
Paper	·         Not coated with plastic ·         Not printed with metallic ink ·         Not soiled with food	The paper goes to a processing plant where it is mixed with hot water and turned into pulp, in turn, is screened and filtered. It then goes to large storage bin where the ink is separated from the paper fibers and floats to the surface. The ink is skimmed off. The cleaned pulp is mixed with new wood fibers to be made into paper again.
Glass	·         Food and other beverages container	The glass is sorted by color, crushed into small pieces and melted down into liquid after which it is molded into new glass containers.
Metals	·         Tin coated cans (containers of sardines and fruits/juices)	Tin cans are placed into a huge container with holes in the bottom and dissolved in caustic solution. After washing, the tin cans are sold as high grade steel. The dissolved tin is sold to companies that need tin to make more cans or other products.
Plastic	·         Made of petroleum and is sorted according to the resin used.	Process may include shredding or melting.
	·         No. 1 or polyethylene terephthalate (PET)	Used to make fiber, structural molding and more containers
	·         No. 2 or high density polyethylene (HDPE) comes from heavy plastic bottles and grocery bags. ·         Mixtures of plastics	Can be recycled as toys, pipes, crates or more bottles Can be recycled as garbage cans and other products.
Wood	·         Plain /not painted wood	Can be re-milled, remanufactured into a new furniture.
Aluminum	·         Made from bauxite ore	Melted down and reshaped into new cans and other items.
