History of Track and Field or Athletics

Track and Field, commonly known as Athletics, is the oldest of the sports. It involves the movements of running, jumping and throwing.
These movements are natural to man. During the pre-historic and ancient times, man used these movements to hunt animals for food. To catch these animals, man had to be skillful in running, jumping and throwing spears and stones.
From the year 776B.C. up to 393 A.D., the Olympic Games were held and the Greeks developed and included Track and Field events. However, in the succeeding years, the Olympic games were banned by the Roman Emperor for the reason that these were played to honor the Greek Gods at Mt. Olympus.
